Each month we feature an incredible small-batch winery and this month we are so excited to feature Finca la Carrodilla from the Valle de Guadalupe of Mexico.

About Finca la Carrodilla
Finca la Carrodilla began as a dream of the Perez Castro family, the owners of Valle de Guadalupe favorite La Lomita, as a tribute to the Virgin of the Vineyards, Virgin de la Carrodilla. The Virgin of La Carrodilla is particularly significant in this region as she is considered the patron saint of winemakers and vineyards. She is believed to protect the vineyards and bless the harvests, making her an important figure in the local wine culture and the perfect inspiration for this unique, innovative winery.
Â
Finca la Carrodilla set out to create the Valle's first certified organic vineyard, a feat that owner Fernando Pérez Castro has shared drew criticisms when it was first proposed. Now, they produce the region's first fully sustainable wine and are considered to be industry leaders in the movement towards a more environmentally friendly approach. In addition to their vineyard, they are home to a 13,000 acre garden, providing fresh vegetables to local restaurants and community members and promoting biodynamic practices that span from the garden to the winemaking.Â
Â
This innovation is a reflection of the region as a whole. The Valle de Guadalupe is an emerging destination for wine makers and wine lovers alike, attracting people with wine backgrounds from all over the world. With no specific appellation in place, winemakers are encouraged to be creative and this collective culture of diversity, variety, and experimentation is reflected in the wine being produced. Â
This month, we'll be highlighting the Canto de Luna, a red blend of 3 of the estate's top grapes.
